AMERICORPS LEGAL FELLOW, CLASS OF 2006
THE PROJECT
Lindsey serves at the Dayton office of Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO), where she is continuing the work of previous Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Attorney Stephanie Dannemann. Lindsey strives to increase the amount of pro bono work performed by the legal community by promoting the awareness of pro bono opportunities and recruiting attorneys from the rural areas of Western Ohio. She also works to instill in law students a public service ethic that will continue throughout their legal careers by developing quality pro bono opportunities and fostering partnerships with local attorneys and organizations.
Lindsey works with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE), LAWO and the Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) of Toledo to implement her project. ABLE, LAWO and VLP of Toledo provide critically needed, high quality civil legal assistance to low-income individuals and groups living in the 32 counties of Western Ohio. Throughout their combined 50-year history, ABLE and LAWO have provided an array of legal services that positively affect the homes, health, children, incomes and jobs of thousands of low-income persons in Western Ohio each year. ABLE and LAWO are the largest providers of free civil legal services in Ohio.
Lindsey joins ABLE with a commitment to public service. During college and law school, Lindsey spent her summers in Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Kingston, Canada as a camp counselor at M-Fuge, which offers missions and urban ministry opportunities for students and adults within a camp context.
