EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS FELLOW, CLASS OF 2008

Name of Host Organization: Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center
City, State: New Orleans, Louisiana
Issue area: Housing/Homelessness
Sponsor: Fannie Mae
THE INSPIRATION
I find inspiration in the persistence of my clients, who work tirelessly for the pursuit of justice in a world that is at once flawed and subject to the power of change. As a student attorney in the Tulane Civil Litigation Clinic, I worked with a physically disabled single mother who applied three times to the HOPE VI redevelopment project. She never gave up, and in the end she and her daughter fought to get themselves a home. They fought for justice, and they won.
THE PROJECT
I am working to enforce the Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination in the housing sector in the New Orleans redevelopment landscape. In addition to assisting with the enforcement and litigation work of the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center, my project is designed to target redevelopment in the region to ensure that accessible and affordable housing is created for people with disabilities.
