Required Member Forms and Documents
To become an official AmeriCorps Attorney, you must complete the CNCS Enrollment Form and provide Proof of Eligibility to participate in AmeriCorps programs. If you haven't already done so, please ask your project director for this information. Once you’ve completed your portion of the form, your project director should certify the Enrollment Form and provide your information to Equal Justice Works via the AmeriCorps Web Based Reporting System (WBRS).
CNCS also requires that each host site execute an AmeriCorps Attorney Contract with its members at the outset of their service year. At minimum, the contract must establish guidelines and definitions for successful completion of the program, such as the minimum number of service hours, and include a position description and a grievance procedure. If you and your host site make changes to any terms of the contract, these changes must be signed in a written amendment to the contract.
Each year, Equal Justice Works staff conducts a review of AmeriCorps Attorney files to ensure that host sites are in compliance with federal regulations. If information is missing, you will be notified and provided with another copy of the form to complete for your file. Please be sure to keep copies of the Enrollment Form and Member Contract for your own records.
CNCS also requires each host site to conduct Midterm and End-of-term Performance Evaluations with each member. These evaluations allow your host site to provide you with feedback on your overall performance, progress toward meeting your hours for the program, progress in meeting the program requirements, and the overall strengths and weaknesses of the project. In the past, members and project directors have reported that they found the evaluation process informative, productive and useful for members' professional development.
Once you have completed the program, you are required to complete a CNCS Exit Form. Your project director will provide you with an exit form once you have completed the program or if you leave the program early. Your project director submits your exit form to Equal Justice Works and CNCS through the WBRS system. Once CNCS receives your exit information through the WBRS system, the National Service Trust ("the Trust") automatically sends you a letter with more information about your education award. For more information on your education award and how it can be used, please see the document titled About Your Education Award (hyperlink?).
Although the regulations and restrictions that govern the PBLC may feel cumbersome at times, understand that the entire PBLC grant is contingent upon compliance with these regulations. To this end, we require that all AmeriCorps Attorneys sign a Certification Form that they did not engage in any prohibited activities (such as lobbying, voter registration, union organizing, etc.) during their service hours or while representing themselves as AmeriCorps members. Please review your member contract for a complete list of AmeriCorps prohibited activities.
