Webinar Series Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for your interest in our Educational Debt Relief Webinars.  Although we would like to assist everyone who may be having difficulty participating in the program, we are unable to provide technical assistance during the webinar events.  Please read the frequently asked questions below if you are experiencing technical difficulties or are unable to join a live event.

Why do I have to register for these events?

Due to the popularity of this subject matter, we must limit the number of people who can join each event through a registration process.  Joining the webinar is on a first come, first served basis.  Registration does not guarantee you a spot in the webinar, we must allow some level of over-subscription to ensure that those who are able to listen are not locked out because of those who register but do not attend.  We host a number of events monthly and ask that you continue to check our webinar page for a list of upcoming sessions.  We keep all information that you provide private; however, we may notify you of other Equal Justice Works resources and upcoming events.

I am not in an Eastern Daylight time zone. How do I know when the webinars begin?

On the webinar registration page click on "Show time in my time zone" to view the time in any time zone.

Why did I receive a restricted message when I tried to join the session, even though I am registered and received confirmation?

If you receive a message that access has been restricted upon joining the webinar, it means that we have reached full capacity and have closed the webinar.  We encourage all attendees to join the webinar sessions at least 10 minutes prior to the start time.  Please note that if you join the webinar after the start time you will most likely not be able to join.  If you miss a session, you should register for another event or you may wait to receive a link to a recording of the session.

What affects the performance of viewing the webinars?

Some of the factors that affect performance include:

  • The speed of your computer's Internet connection.
  • Internet traffic.
  • Performance of your firewall and proxy servers.
  • Your operating system or browser might be outdated.

Where can I find the teleconference number?

It can be found under the Audio tab in the GoToWebinar application.  We encourage you to use the VoIP option on your computer to listen to the webinar (through your headphones or speakers).  Calling in through the teleconference number does cost Equal Justice Works a fee so we would greatly appreciate your use of the VoIP option if possible.

Why can I not hear anything during the webinar?

You must have the necessary capacity, including speakers or a headset, to listen to the audio part of the event.  Once you join the event, the audio broadcast starts automatically.  If the webinar has not started you will hear beeps until it begins.

If you are unable to hear the audio during an event:

  • Check to make sure your headphones or speakers are properly connected to your computer.
  • Adjust the sound on your computer.
  • Adjust the sound using the controls on the GoToWebinar application.
  • If you have done all of the above and still do not have audio, log out of the event and close the browser.  Open a new browser and try to re-join the event.

Are there written materials that contain the information in the webinars?

All the information in the webinars and much more that we don't have time to cover is in our comprehensive e-book, Take Control of Your Future: A Guide to Managing Your Student Debt.

What if I sign up but am unable to attend the webinar?  Will I be able to view the presentation online?

If you miss a webinar for which you have already registered, you will receive an email with a link to a recording of the session.  We often schedule a number of sessions for popular topics, so you may register for an upcoming live session of the webinar you missed.

How do I cancel my registration?

There is a link on the bottom of your registration confirmation email where you can cancel.
