Q: What takes place during the Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair?
A: The 2009 Conference and Career Fair is Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25 and includes conference programming, a public interest law career fair and an awards luncheon honoring public interest law leaders and students. The 2009 Awards Luncheon is Saturday, October 24 and honors a law school faculty/staff member and student group.
Q: What is the difference between the Awards Dinner and the Awards Luncheon?
A: The Awards Dinner is a fundraising dinner put on by Equal Justice Works to provide funds for our programs. The Awards Luncheon is especially for law schools. The presentations will honor an outstanding law school professional and student group.
Q: What conference sessions are available to students and graduates?
A: The 2009 Conference will feature 12 sessions divided into three tracks:
- Timely Topics and Activism
Sessions address timely substantive law areas by providing an issue overview as well as current and new legal, political or economic developments. Additionally, the sessions offer advice on how to get involved. - Leadership Skills
Sessions provide skills training in leadership areas that are necessary for campus student leaders and new lawyers. - Roadmap to a Public Interest Career
Sessions focus on opportunities outside of the classroom that 1L, 2L or 3L students should be involved in to prepare for a career in public interest law. The sessions feature students, organizations and legal professionals dedicated to public interest. A detailed agenda for the conference will be available in August on our website.
Q: What is the deadline to register for the Conference and Career Fair?
A: Registration closes at 5 p.m., EDT on October 7. On-site registration will be available for individuals who miss this deadline.
Q: How do students, alumni and deferred associates register for the event?
A: Beginning August 31, attendees will be able to login to Symplicity to pre-register, upload résumés and apply for interviews at the Conference and Career Fair.
Q: Will students and law school professionals be allowed to register after the deadline?
A: On-site registration will be available if you miss the deadline. . If necessary, schools will be invoiced for the additional registrations following the events.
Q: Does Equal Justice Works make travel arrangements and/or pay for students and graduates to attend the Conference and Career Fair?
A: All attendees registered for any part of the Conference and Career Fair are responsible for their own travel arrangements. For travel and lodging information, as well as directions to the event, visit Travel and Lodging. . Equal Justice Works does not offer travel assistance.

Q: What is the process for submitting résumés and scheduling interviews for the Career Fair?
A: You may apply for interviews prior to the Career Fair by submitting résumés, cover letters and unofficial transcripts directly to participating employers using Symplicity. Some employers are requesting additional materials, which should be brought to the interview and not uploaded into Symplicity. Employers will review materials and contact the students that they want to interview by preselecting them in Symplicity. To learn more about the employers who are participating in the Career Fair, login to your Symplicity account and click on the Career Fair tab to apply.
NOTE: In accordance with NALP guidelines, first-year students are not permitted to participate in one-on-one employer interviews. However, they may participate in Table Talk and conference sessions.
Q: What is the deadline to submit résumés to employers?
A: Applicants must submit their bids for interviews by September 14. No applications will be accepted after this time. Equal Justice Works does not accept résumés.
Q: When will I have a response from employers?
A: Employers will be choosing their preselected interviews by September 25. You will be notified via email and may accept or decline their invitations to interview beginning September 30.
Q: What is Table Talk?
A: Table Talk allows you to meet informally with employers. During Table Talk sessions, you can stop by employer tables to discuss summer and post-graduate opportunities and drop off résumés. No conference sessions will be scheduled during Table Talk.
Q: Which employers participate in Table Talk?
A: Every employer at the Career Fair participates in Table Talk. This is a great opportunity for students to meet with the employers in which they are particularly interested.
Q: Can I speak with employers outside of Table Talk if they don’t have an interview scheduled?
A: Employers will have signs at their tables indicating that they are either in an interview or available to speak with students. You should approach an employer ONLY if the employer is NOT conducting an interview.

Q: Do I have to approve registrations?
A: Beginning this year, registrations will automatically be approved by Symplicity. You may view a list of students registered by logging into Symplicity and clicking on Students.
Q: Can I pay my invoice by credit card?
A: Credit card payments will be accepted. After the conference, schools will receive invoices of their balance at which time they will have the option of paying with a credit card.
Q: Do I need to give my students my password in order for them to be able to access the employer database?
A: No. At no time should you share your administrator password with students. Students must sign up for their own Equal Justice Works Symplicity account, which will generate a unique account for them.
Q: One of my students can no longer attend the Conference and Career Fair. Should I contact Equal Justice Works?
A: Please have your student use Symplicity to cancel their registration. If your student is registered but does not attend, you will still be charged for the registration if you are over your allotted number.
Q: I have run out of Career Fair registrations for my students. What are my options?
A: You will be billed for each additional registration after the 10th person. Students may register or cancel until October 7. Following the event, schools will be invoiced for the number of additional slots purchased, regardless of attendance.
