Pro Se Clinic for Unrepresented Adult Asylum Seekers in the D.C. Metropolitan Area

Students attending the 2017 Conference and Career Fair are invited to participate in an exciting pro bono opportunity during the event, hosted by members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and Human Rights First as part of the ABA's National Celebration of Pro Bono Week!
Student volunteers will have the opportunity to work with legal aid and pro bono attorneys to assist unrepresented adult asylum seekers in the community.
On Friday, October 27, a Human Rights First representative will provide a training and answer questions to prepare student volunteers for the Pro Bono Day of Service, which will be held on Saturday, October 28. The Friday training will be held at the Career Fair hotel, Crystal Gateway Marriott, time to be announced. Student volunteers will be provided transportation from the Career Fair hotel to Saturday's Intake Clinic, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at George Mason University School of Law.
To be eligible to participate, students must be registered for the Conference and Career Fair and the Pro Bono Day of Service project, and are required to attend the training on Friday, October 27 as well as the entirety of the Intake Clinic on Saturday. Students are asked to bring their laptops to the day of service. Student volunteer slots for the pro bono opportunity are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis. After we've reached capacity, you are encouraged to still sign up and be placed on a wait list as some spots may open up.
Spanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required.

Student Volunteer Training for Pro Bono Day of Service – Lee, Lobby Level at the Crystal Gateway Marriott
This session is required for and only open to students who pre-registered for the Pro Bono Day of Service being held on Saturday, October 28. This event is part of the ABA’s National Celebration of Pro Bono Week, and will be hosted by members of Human Rights First. Supervising attorneys will answer questions to prepare students for their involvement in the pro bono opportunity.
Open to students who preregistered for the pro bono project only.
