The Inspiration
The Project
The 2010 Supreme Court decision Padilla v. Kentucky held that the defense counsel’s failure to inform non-citizen clients about immigration consequences of criminal pleas constitutes ineffective assistance. This project will promote the Padilla vision by training defenders on immigration consequences of criminal law and expanding the scope of Padilla’s protections through strategic impact litigation.
