The Project

Alleviate the health challenges low-income transgender individuals in Los Angeles face by providing assistance with underlying legal issues through a Medical-Legal Partnership.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project
Many of the roughly 700,000 transgender individuals in the United States live in Los Angeles County. Because few medical providers specialize in transgender care, those who do often are saturated and lack capacity to treat all of the patients in need. Doctors are in a unique position to screen for legal needs affecting patient health. Addressing primary legal issues can alleviate what eventually manifests as medical concerns, and can also increase capacity at transgender health clinics.
The Right Person For This Project
Jordan is the right person for the project because:
• For the past seven years she has holistically advocated for trans rights by working on litigation protecting individuals in prisons and detention centers; researching and writing about primary health care denials, starting a legal name and gender change clinic, and leading trainings on trans and LGBTQ sensitivity
• She has worked on policy addressing the effects of racial, economic, immigration, and gender inequalities
