The Project

Empower immigrants facing deportation and their attorneys to fight prolonged detention through habeas support, appellate advocacy, and a coordinated communications and advocacy campaign.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project
Data shows that, perversely, the longest average detention time is imposed on immigrants who win their cases: refugees, survivors of torture, and longtime lawful permanent residents whose American families depend on them for support. By combining strategic advocacy with impact litigation, technical assistance, and litigation support to line defenders and pro se immigrants, my project will empower immigrants to challenge unconstitutionally prolonged detention.
The Right Person For This Project
Anthony is the right person for the project because:
• As a former attorney at a community organization that defended immigrants facing deportation, he understands the resource constraints line defenders often face and is motivated to creatively surmount these challenges.
• After years of advocacy alongside immigrants’ rights organizations, he has a broad network of partners to help him challenge prolonged detention by training and educating immigrants, attorneys, and policymakers.
