The Project

Advocate for California higher education students with psychiatric disabilities to ensure that schools apply nondiscriminatory practices that provide students with equal access and opportunities.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project
An estimated one in four California higher education students live with a psychiatric disability such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder, or Anxiety. Nationwide, suicide is the second leading cause of death among higher education students, claiming the lives of more than 1,000 students each year. All people with disabilities are legally entitled to reasonable accommodation and protection from discrimination.
The Right Person For This Project

Monica is the right person for the project because:
• Since college, she has advocated for people with disabilities, including students facing discrimination in education settings
• Prior to and during law school, she gained experience with direct client services including client counseling and providing legal information
• She has seen loved ones struggle with psychiatric disabilities and knows on a personal level the challenges and stigma people with psychiatric disabilities face
