The Project

Provide legal advocacy to crime victims, address the cyclical nature of crime by acknowledging and managing trauma, and diminish juvenile crime by incorporating restorative practices into schools.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project
Harris County averages 10,000 inmates and 30,000 parolees at any given time. The children and dependents of those who are incarcerated and paroled are secondary victims. This population is saddled by the collateral consequences of crime, as they face the same legal issues as primary victims, in addition to the stigma, stress and financial constraints of supporting an inmate or parolee.
The Right Person For This Project
Beatrice is the right person for the project because:
• Through her extensive experience in criminal and capital defense, she has seen firsthand the cyclical nature of crime and the interplay between victimization, trauma and criminal behavior
• In law school she received training and developed a great passion for Restorative Justice
• Through Northwestern Law and the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago, Beatrice became a certified mediator and has successfully mediated dozens of cases
