The Project

Enhance and protect the quality of life for low-income LGBTQ youth of color through direct legal representation, and increased access to social services and educational opportunities.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project:
While only comprising 3-5% of the general population in the United States, LGBTQ youth are up to seven times more likely to experience acts of sexual violence, and twice as likely to experience sexual abuse before adulthood. Additionally, LGBTQ youth are at a particularly high risk of becoming victims of human trafficking, and disproportionately experience discrimination in education and other social service sectors.
The Right Person For This Project:
Steffi is the right person for the project because:
• She has provided assistance for over 40 cases involving education, immigration, criminal, and family law, primarily for low-income victims of human trafficking, abuse, and violent crimes
• She gained extensive experience working with young populations as a college preparatory instructor for high school students, and as an elementary school teacher while a Teach for America corps member
