The Project

Combat barriers to education equity and promote educational advancement opportunities for court-involved youth through legal services, community education, policy advocacy, and impact litigation.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project
Juvenile justice system-involved youth are one of California’s most vulnerable student populations. This project will provide education-focused advocacy to ensure that young people formerly involved with the juvenile justice system have access to meaningful opportunity and a clear path forward to make positive changes in their lives.
The Right Person For This Project

Stacy is the right person for the project because:
• She has experience representing and working directly with youth, families, community groups, and clients with substantial needs
• She has a passion for making the promise of education equity and opportunity a reality for young people—one that was sparked tutoring and mentoring at-risk youth prior to law school

Plans For First Six Months of Fellowship

In the first six months, Stacy will:
• Meet with community stakeholders and key partners to prioritize areas of need
• Meet with prospective clients for direct legal services cases
• Design community education sessions and materials
• Engage local post-secondary and career-training providers to increase access and opportunity
• Begin policy advocacy work for prioritized areas of need
