This project will build the capacity of tenants -in eligible HUD Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Properties - in order for them to engage with management and community organizations regarding their rights, responsibilities, and options for improving their homes and communities.
Additionally, this project aims to: 1) Build capacity of Tenants and Tenant organizations by: Developing and strengthening their knowledge of their rights in regards to being a tenant , and/or part of a tenant organization in a RAD property; Developing their understanding of how to address their needs and concerns to HUD and/or Owners/Management; Strengthening Tenant organizations through leadership development, and providing resources; and Providing Legal Aid. 2) Assist the Tenant and Tenant organizations during/after the RAD conversion process, in addressing their concerns to HUD and/or Owners/Management. 3) Improve the relationship between: Tenants/Tenant organizations and HUD and/or Owners/Management.
Sylvia has a passion for advocating for those who have been unfairly treated, and whose needs and concerns have been often forgotten, or not addressed at all. She has experience with working in Real Property Law, specifically Housing Authority Issues, Landlord/Tenant Cases, Fair Housing Discrimination, and Estates. Sylvia is determined to make a difference.
