EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS NAMES CHARLENE GOMES
SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER FOR LAW SCHOOL ADVOCACY & OUTREACH
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Equal Justice Works has announced the appointment of Charlene Gomes as Senior Program Manager for Law School Advocacy & Outreach. In her new position, Ms. Gomes will build closer ties to Equal Justice Works law school members and lead the development of a comprehensive online resource, The E-Guide to Public Service at America’s Law Schools.

Ms. Gomes has been active in the law school community for nearly a decade. Prior to joining Equal Justice Works, she served as the Public Interest Coordinator in the Office of Public Interest at American University Washington College of Law. She was also Program Director for the Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellowship Program and Program Assistant for the National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL) Fellowship Program, which in 2001 became the Equal Justice Works Fellowship Program.

Ms. Gomes holds a Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Mary Washington College.

“More than any other single organization, Equal Justice Works has helped to sustain and expand public interest law programs on campuses around the country,” said Ms. Gomes. “I’m delighted to return to an organization with such a strong commitment to improving legal education and looking forward to expanding the reach of all of our programs, particularly The E-Guide.”

The E-Guide was launched in August 2006 in partnership with Newsweek.com. The first edition of this free interactive online resource provided extensive information on the public service opportunities, curricula and financial aid programs at 116 law schools. A second edition was launched a year later with over 150 law schools in The E-Guide.

Equal Justice Works has contracted with one of the nation’s leading research firms, Harris Interactive, to assist in producing the third edition of The E-Guide. This edition will include improved data collection processes and a complete redesign to eliminate respondent burden to the survey and increase usability of the tool. It is scheduled to be rolled-out in March 2009.

“Charlene’s deep understanding of the issues affecting legal education and her relationship with many in the academy will be great assets as we move forward with the third edition of The E-Guide,” said David Stern, Chief Executive Officer of Equal Justice Works. “We are thrilled that she will be joining us in our efforts to improve the quality of legal education.”

Ms. Gomes joins Equal Justice Works as Senior Program Manager on August 11.
