KPMG EXECUTIVE VICE CHAIR SVEN ERIK HOLMES
JOINS EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS BOARD
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Equal Justice Works today announced that KPMG Executive Vice Chair, Legal and Compliance and former U.S. District Judge Sven Erik Holmes has joined its board of directors. Judge Holmes joins 23 other leaders in the law profession and legal education to support and direct the activities of the national public interest law nonprofit.

Judge Holmes joined KPMG, one the "Big Four" accounting firms, in 2005 after 10 years on the federal bench. He was the Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma, appointed to the seat by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in October 1994.

Previously, he was a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm Williams & Connolly, served as staff director and general counsel of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, was Vice President of the Baltimore Orioles and taught constitutional law for six years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tulsa College of Law. Judge Holmes grew up in Oklahoma. In 2007, Accounting Today named Judge Holmes one of the top 100 individuals in the United States with the greatest influence on the accounting profession.

Judge Holmes graduated from Harvard University and received a JD degree from the University of Virginia Law School and an LLM in taxation from the Georgetown Law Center. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife Lois Romano, a reporter for the Washington Post. They have two daughters.

"We are so lucky to have someone of Judge Holmes' caliber join our board," said David Stern, Chief Executive Officer of Equal Justice Works. "In so many ways, Judge Holmes epitomizes the very qualities we try to instill in law students and young lawyers. Whether as a federal judge, a congressional staff person, or as a very successful private lawyer, Judge Holmes has found ways to contribute to the public good."

The Equal Justice Works Board of Directors is a diverse group of national leaders from law firms, law schools, corporate legal departments, and the public sector. Board member terms are three years.
