WASHINGTON,
D.C. -
The Legal Times names Equal Justice Works Chief Executive Officer David Stern one of the 30 “Champions” in the Washington legal community over the last 30 years. These lawyers were recognized for upholding “their profession’s core values of public duty and client service, building pro bono practices, acting as bar presidents, taking on community causes, holding public service positions, and fighting to expand liberties and protect civil rights.” The honors were announced in the May 19 edition of the Legal Times as part of the weekly magazine’s 30th anniversary commemoration. The awards will be presented on September 24, 2008, at a black-tie gala celebration at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington. Other Legal Times Champions include Judith Areen, Equal Justice Works board member and Paul Regis Dean Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law; Marian Wright Edelman, Founder and President of the Children’s Defense Fund; Esther Lardent, President and Chief Executive of the Pro Bono Institute; Ralph Nader, consumer advocate, presidential candidate and founder of Public Citizen; and Eleanor Holmes Norton, delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. - end -
