LOUISIANA SUPREME COURT HONORS EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS PROJECT MANAGER | |

WASHINGTON,
D.C. - The Supreme Court of Louisiana and the Louisiana State Bar Association will honor Equal Justice Works Katrina Project Manager Kelly Wilson along with other attorneys and legal services professionals in a ceremony on October 1 in New Orleans.
In a letter to Ms. Wilson and other honorees, Louisiana Chief Justice Pascal Calogero and State Bar President S. Guy DeLaup praise those "who were kind enough to donate their time and effort to help Louisianans when we were in need." "With your unwavering support during this period," the notification continues, "we were able to begin the recovery process while demonstrating the viability of Louisiana and preserving the rule of law." Ms. Wilson has served as manager of the Katrina Initiative since 2005. The program has placed 19 attorneys and over one hundred law students with legal aid agencies in the Gulf Coast region to assist survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Ms. Wilson is also a contributor to a short documentary on the project, Survivors of the Storm: Securing Justice in Post-Katrina America. Prior to her current position, Ms. Wilson was the Program Coordinator for the Equal Justice Works Fellowships and AmeriCorps Programs. Previously, she served as President of her law school's Equal Justice Foundation and interned at the Lawyers' Committee on Civil Rights under Law and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She received a J.D. in 2003 from the University of Iowa, where she also earned joint B.A. degrees in Journalism and History in 2000. - end - Equal Justice Works, a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1986 by law students dedicated to working for equal justice on behalf of underserved communities and causes.
