EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS FELLOW, CLASS OF 2009

Name of Host Organization: Rubicon Programs Inc.
City, State: Richmond, California
Issue area: Health Care/Medical-Legal Collaborative, Disability Rights
Sponsor: Contra Costa County Bar Association
THE INSPIRATION
Prior to law school, I worked as a Case Manager in supportive housing programs for people coming out of homelessness. I saw the difference that support, which may come in many forms, can make in a person’s life. I was raised to have a strong belief in community. I want to contribute to a society that equally respects and cares for all of its members.
THE PROJECT
My project, entitled the Mental Health Legal Services Project (MHLSP), will provide direct legal services to mentally ill, indigent residents of West Contra Costa County. I will collaborate with County Mental Health programs in West Contra Costa County and work closely with mental health providers to ensure project services both respond to clients’ legal needs and contribute to their mental health recovery.
