EQUAL JUSTICE WORKS FELLOW, CLASS OF 2009

Hometown: | Pace, Florida |
Law school: | |
Making the connection: | My decision to enter law school was based on my desire to help bridge the gap between individuals and groups who could afford legal assistance and those who could not. I realized how severe the need was while working at an HIV-AIDS nonprofit, as well as volunteering in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. |
Surviving law school: | Get involved! I worked for two semesters as a Certified Legal Intern with Barry University Children and Families Legal Clinic. We represented indigent children who could not otherwise afford a private attorney in both dependency and delinquency actions. My passion was intensified as I continued to assist these children by being their voice in equal representation. |
Recommended books: | Nation of Immigrants by John F. Kennedy; Dreams from my Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by Barack Obama; and The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. |
Favorite website(s): | NYTimes.com – Excellent source for accurate, up-to-date news Linkedin.com - Outstanding resource for professional networking Facebook.com - Maintaining correspondence with friends, family and coworkers |
Music I love: | I have a love for music of all genres and eras. |
Words to live by: | "Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." - Abigail Adams "Only as high as I reach can I grow, Only as far as I seek can I go, Only as deep as I look can I see, Only as much as I dream can I be." - Karen Ravin “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” - Anne Frank “If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.” - John F. Kennedy |
