Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) is a non-profit civil legal aid program that represents low-income individuals in Southeast Louisiana in landlord-tenant, federally subsidized housing, consumer, family, income security, employment, health care, tax, probate and education cases.

Hurricane Katrina still poses unique challenges to the representation of Southeast Louisiana and New Orleans residents. Our attorneys have responded to this historic disaster by handling thousands of disaster-related legal problems, often in areas of law not historically handled by legal aid programs.
 
SLLS currently hosts two AmeriCorps Fellows working to recruit, organize and supervise volunteers for the organization.  Both dedicate part of their time to direct case work. In addition to these activities, the Fellows are working on specific projects in the community. The housing unit Fellow created and hosts a pro se security deposit clinic, assisting tenants in the lawful recovery of their deposits. The public benefits Fellow is organizing a medical/legal partnership in the Greater New Orleans area, training doctors and medical staff to spot legal issues that are related to medical problems their patients are experiencing. She is also on-site at medical clinics in the area to provide legal assistance for those in need.
