AmeriCorps VISTA

Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps VISTA programs bring together Fellows and Community Advocates/Organizers for a one-year term to build capacity at legal services and community organizations that help preserve affordable housing and bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

Equal Justice Works sponsors the following AmeriCorps VISTA programs:

  • VISTA Affordable Housing Preservation Project (VAHPP) focuses on preserving, maintaining, and improving Project-Based Section 8 Housing across the country. VAHPP is funded by HUD and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
  • VISTA Tenant Engagement and Community Development Project (TECDev) aims to address the needs of tenants who live in Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Component I properties. Fellows and Community Advocates help tenants advocate on issues related to housing, education, employment, crime prevention, public health, youth development, and other areas.

AmeriCorps VISTA programs are open to individuals aged 18 or older who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, or persons legally residing. Fellows are required to have a JD degree. These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Applications for AmeriCorps VISTA are not being accepted at this time. You can find a list of organizations currently hosting VISTA Fellows and Community Organizers below.
