The Project

My project seeks to end punitive child welfare policies, specifically the needless, traumatic separation of newborns from mothers based solely on a positive drug test. As a child welfare reform initiative, my project promotes family preservation over child removal, and harm reduction as an alternative to abstinence-only drug treatment. I am working to challenge presumptive neglect laws; link mothers to local advocacy groups; conduct comprehensive training for lawyers representing parents; and publish positive media coverage of these aims.
