The Project

Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity is dedicated to working with the community to reduce the collateral effects of criminal records. The fellowship project involves supervising community expungement intake clinics, filing petitions, and providing direct legal representation in expungement hearings. The project also involves establishing relationships with organizations that serve marginalized groups and providing know-your-criminal records-rights presentations. Other tasks include addressing barriers to successful reentry, following up with clients, gathering data and measuring the effects of expungements on access to employment, and building partnerships with job-seeking organizations.
