The Project
The community served by Covenant House, homeless youth age 18-21, are quite vulnerable. Residents of Covenant House and youth who receive drop-in services normally have no place to go. Their vulnerability makes them prime targets for predators and abusers. Although their needs as defendants are thoroughly addressed, a focus on their rights as victims is also required since defendants in many instances start out as victims of crimes. With Beverly’s assistance as a Crime Victims Justice Corps Fellow, Covenant House was able to provide comprehensive legal services to victims of crime.
As a Crime Victims Justice Corps Fellow, Beverly ensured that the existing legal remedies provided to residents of Covenant House were supplemented with direct assistance and representation for survivors and victims of human trafficking.
