The Project

Chase Porter is an Equal Justice Works Fellow serving in the Disaster Recovery Legal Corps (DRLC).

Hurricane Harvey caused billions of dollars of damage and directly impacted the lives of millions of Houston and Harris County residents. Low-income communities were the hardest hit. Their residents are in need of effective legal advice and representation across many areas of law, including government benefits, consumer, housing, employment, bankruptcy, and family law. Chase’s project serves Houston and Harris County, Texas by providing direct services to low-income populations affected by Hurricane Harvey. These services will ensure low-income survivors of Hurricane Harvey have access to a range of legal services needed to stabilize and rebuild their lives.

Chase pursued law school due to his dedication to a career protecting and ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all members of his community and his home state of Texas. He has interned and volunteered with organizations dedicated to providing access to justice to low-income communities, including Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and clinics at the University of Texas School of Law. Chase holds a B.A. in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and an M.P.A. and J.D. from the University of Texas. He is also proficient in Spanish.
