Courtney’s Fellowship addressed the lack of culturally competent, trauma-informed legal services available to domestic and immigrant survivors of human trafficking in Southwest Ohio. This included addressing the deficiencies in the implementation and enforcement of victims’ rights in the geographic service area. This Fellowship also addressed the lack of awareness (by both survivors and community stakeholders) regarding the legal remedies and services available to human trafficking survivors.
The project sought to increase the capacity of the victims’ services field by providing direct representation, outreach and education to domestic and immigrant survivors of human trafficking while also increasing community capacity to recognize the legal issues facing survivors.
Courtney has always had a passion for helping others and a desire to make a difference. For as long as she can remember, she has worked to translate this spirit of service into a career. She believes her prior experience advocating for vulnerable individuals coupled with her strong desire to provide legal services to human trafficking survivors made her the right person for this Fellowship.
