The Project

Represent the interests of those who are elderly and who have disabilities in the community, prison, nursing homes, and other institutions.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project

The project allows the Fellow to represent the human and civil rights of persons who are elderly and who have disabilities. This includes lack of constitutionally adequate medical care in prison, unjust solitary confinement (investigation), abuse in nursing home, and abuse in one’s on home.

The Right Person For This Project

Derek is the right person for the project because:
• He took courses specializing in civil rights litigation and systemic and impact litigation
• He knows that many of the issues facing seniors are systemic in nature and need systemic resolutions
• His host organization has a protection and advocacy system and therefore is allowed to do class actions, unlike ordinary legal aid offices
