The Project

Emily’s project expanded the services offered in the NextStep Project, which was designed to serve former foster youth. This Fellowship focused on youth who were crossing-over from the dependency to the delinquency system. During the Fellowship, Emily assisted youth with SSI appeals, 388 petitions (which allowed youth to access Independent Living Program services), and other problems they encountered. Emily also engaged in significant policy work, direct services and community education with the goal to seal juvenile delinquency records.

Next Steps

Emily is now the Director of Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers, the country’s largest legal nonprofit dedicated to representing parents in child welfare court cases.
