The Project

Holly L. Webster’s project will provide direct legal representation to low-income tenants experiencing evictions in the counties covered by both the Greenville and Spartanburg offices for South Carolina Legal Services. Holly will also collaborate with community partners and referral networks to serve low-income communities by providing outreach and resources to low-income households.

Landlord-tenant evictions in the Upstate South Carolina area often lead to low-income tenants throughout Upstate South Carolina becoming homeless. Evictions can happen rapidly. Without the proper knowledge and resources, low-income individuals and tenants are less likely to prevail in an eviction action. In addition to losing their housing, low-income tenants may also be at risk of losing their subsidies, if they live in public housing or federally subsidized housing.

Holly was inspired to address the issue of landlord-tenant evictions after seeing the complexities of homelessness in various communities. Holly knows that evictions have led to countless low-income individuals and families becoming homeless, and she is grateful for the opportunity to combat this issue throughout her Fellowship.

Fellowship Plans

Holly will address this issue by providing direct representation to low-income tenants facing evictions and collaborating with community partners to serve the low-income communities. Holly also plans to provide outreach and participate in community education events to educate low-income tenants.

The passion I have for the issue of landlord-tenant evictions is due to its direct connection to homelessness, which I strive to prevent by providing direct legal representation and educating low-income communities through outreach and community education events.”
