The Project

Jenny provided legal assistance to low-income homeowners facing foreclosure through direct representation, systemic advocacy, and outreach relating to the recently developed early mediation process in judicial foreclosure cases.

Fellowship Highlights

In the past two years, Jenny has:

Preserved homeownership for many low-income D.C. residents through the early mediation process
Provided advice and temporary representation to homeowners at the courthouse seeking guidance before making critical decisions in their judicial foreclosure cases
Presented to hundreds of prospective homeowners on foreclosure prevention strategies
Created materials for both pro se litigants and practitioners to help them understand and navigate the new foreclosure process in D.C.

What’s Next

Now that the Fellowship is complete, Jenny plans to:

Continue her representation of District homeowners facing foreclosure as a staff attorney at Legal Aid
Push for changes to D.C.’s HomeSaver Program to ensure that the program best serves the needs of District homeowners in danger of foreclosure
Continue advocacy efforts in support of legislation that would require condominium associations to offer mediation before foreclosing on a unit owner
