The Project

MariCarmen Dollar is an Equal Justice Works Fellow serving in the Disaster Recovery Legal Corps (DRLC). She is committed to using her legal skills to serve others, particularly those who are in need of legal services that they cannot otherwise afford.

MariCarmen’s project aims to provide a holistic range of legal services to low-income individuals recovering from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. The range of legal services provided includes title clearing, contractor disputes, insurance coverage disputes, FEMA appeals, assistance with mortgage foreclosure/forbearance matters, evictions and other landlord/tenant matters, and other legal issues facing those affected by the disaster.

Prior to joining the DRLC, MariCarmen worked as an experienced litigator focusing on employment law matters. She also gained experience as a volunteer coordinator at Mercy House Global, an organization dedicated to promoting the sale of fairly-traded accessories and home goods crafted by impoverished and marginalized women. MariCarmen is a 1997 graduate of the South Texas College of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
