Meghan Smolensky is an Equal Justice Works Fellow in the Disaster Recovery Legal Corps (DRLC). Meghan was drawn to the project from a desire to help others navigate the often complex legal system, using her knowledge of the legal system to dispel insecurity and fear in those she serves.
Hurricane Harvey caused billions of dollars of damage and directly impacted the lives of millions of Houston and Harris County residents. Low-income communities were the hardest hit. Their residents are in need of effective legal advice and representation across many areas of law, including government benefits, consumer, housing, employment, bankruptcy, and family law. Meghan’s project serves Houston and Harris County, Texas by providing direct services to low-income populations affected by Hurricane Harvey. These services will ensure low-income survivors of Hurricane Harvey have access to a range of legal services needed to stabilize and rebuild their lives.
Prior to joining the DRLC, Meghan served as both a law clerk and legal intern at Lone Star Legal Aid, where she assisted clients on a range of civil legal aid matters including eviction defense and public benefits. Megan is a 2017 graduate of the South Texas College of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University.
