MK helped communities in Georgia overcome legal barriers to Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP through legal representation, education, and community outreach. They specialized in working with LGBTQ populations.
MK began their project helping LGBTQ communities secure Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP. MK later broadened their fellowship to encompass the general population, in part to meet the increased public benefits needs they saw in their community during the COVID-19 pandemic. MK is looking forward to continuing their work in public benefits and community lawyering post-fellowship.
MK led over 30 educational events on public benefits, provided advice and referrals for 183 clients, and provided full representation to 25 clients. They also developed a Medical-Legal Partnership with the Clarkston Community Health Center (CCHC) to provide wrap-around social services to under- and uninsured patients throughout Georgia.
MK is looking forward to continuing their work in public benefits and community lawyering post-fellowship.
As a queer Georgian, I am eager to return to Atlanta to serve those in my community. Atlanta is full of creative, resilient queer and trans individuals, and I am excited to empower them to live their best lives.
