The Project

According to a recent study by the federal government, veterans are far more likely to be homeless than other Americans. Veterans have high rates of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, traumatic brain injury and sexual trauma, which increases their risk of homelessness. Also, about half of veterans who are currently homeless battle serious mental health or substance abuse issues. The goal of Nina’s project was to help these veterans gain shelter and stability by accessing financial safety nets. Nina provided direct representation (challenging denials to their applications for public benefits or Veterans Administration benefits), outreach and community education.
