The Project

Foreign nationals are greatly affected by human trafficking. These immigrant survivors of human trafficking not only need services that are victim-centered and trauma-informed, they also need culturally competent and linguistically appropriate services.

As a Crime Victims Justice Corps Fellow, Phatchara will provide comprehensive and direct legal services to immigrant survivors of human trafficking. These direct services will be trauma-informed, and culturally competent. Phatchara is bilingual and speaks both Thai and English. He was raised in Thailand and is educated in both Thai and U.S. law. He also received training in providing services that are trauma-informed and culturally competent. This will enable him to fully assist Thai survivors by addressing not only legal issues but also cultural specific issues that could prevent survivors from receiving necessary services. These comprehensive services will include, but are not limited to, providing advice on legal rights and remedies available and assisting survivors to obtain a T Visa, U Visa, or adjustment of status.

Phatchara will also assist his host organization, the Thai Community Development Center, strengthen already existing partnership with various organizations, especially partner organizations in the Asian Pacific Islander Human Trafficking Task Force and build new partnerships to strengthen community’s capacity to provide comprehensive services to immigrant survivors through community collaborations.
