The Project

Human trafficking survivors often have a variety of legal needs that have to be addressed in order for them to rebuild their lives from the victimization of human trafficking. Yet few organizations and programs offer comprehensive legal services for human trafficking survivors—either onsite or through a network of attorneys. The need in the Washington, D.C. and Maryland areas is particularly acute because of the prevalence of human trafficking in the area and the large immigrant population in Maryland that is vulnerable to it.

As a Crime Victims Justice Corps Fellow, Rebeca directly represented survivors of sex and labor trafficking in all immigration matters and in crime victims’ rights advocacy and enforcement. For other legal matters arising from victimization, she connected the survivor with pro bono organizations, and low bono attorneys in a network the SAFE Center is building.

Rebeca focused heavily on immigration law throughout her law school careerShe believes that client interaction is the most important aspect of lawyering and she strives to ensure that clients feel comfortable and empowered as they work together through the case. Additionally, she is fluent in English and Spanish, which is an asset when working with Hispanic/Latinx immigrant clients.
