Dennis Hsieh

The Project

Dennis set up two medical-legal community partnerships for low-income and indigent patients in Los Angeles. Along with direct services, Dennis also investigated the effects of the closure of a local hospital and work to bring healthcare resources back into this community.  The partnership improved patient health by addressing issues such as housing conditions, access to public benefits, immigration and special education. The legal team provided a range of services in these areas, ranging from brief advice to full representation. Additionally, Dennis trained providers on how to be better advocates for patients.

The Project

Through collaboration with Ohio Northeast Health Systems clinic located in Youngstown, Leah targeted low-income children and their families to provide legal representation aimed at improving children’s medical outcomes. All too frequently, low-income children’s health situations have underlying legal issues that prevent them from reaching ideal health situations. Through this proactive approach, physicians may refer children and their families for legal services aimed at correcting specific detrimental medical situations.

The Project

The project focuses on meeting the needs of the poor in Appalachian Ohio by developing lasting partnerships with medical entities in the area and by providing direct representation to clients. Appalachian Ohio is an area that struggles with widespread poverty and limited resources, making the need for professional collaboration even more urgent.

The Project

Thousands of men, women and children arrive in Florida as victims of trafficking each year. Unfortunately, advocacy throughout Florida for those victims is sparse. Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center (FIAC) in Miami has developed a technique of collaborating with social service providers, law enforcement and other agencies to provide holistic representation to clients. This project will adapt that model to provide well-rounded services to victims of trafficking throughout all of Florida.
