Sarah Belton

The Project

Sarah’s project addressed the unmet educational needs of children and youth pushed out from public schools due to school discipline, attendance, special education, and other issues.

During the Fellowdship, Sarah provided direct representation to marginalized students to prevent school push out and create healthier school cultures. She also collaborated with schools and school districts to align policies with state and federal laws.

Fellowship Highlights

Sarah provided individual advocacy to assist youth in foster care, victims of trauma, immigrant children, English language learners, and LGBTQ+ youth in asserting their right to an education. She also conducted direct outreach and training to stakeholders in the education space, focusing on practices and strategies to create healthy and safer school cultures and to prevent further push out. In addition, Sarah participated in coalitions to advocate for legal changes at the school district and state levels.
