The Project

This project is designed to provide direct legal services to unemployed or underemployed clients to
remove legal barriers to employment and professional or occupational licensing, including the expungement or sealing of criminal records, waivers, certificates, and restoration of driving privileges. This project implicates overseeing the delivery of legal services and directly provides legal services to clients of partner agencies on-site, at CGLA’s office, at CGLA’s help desks and at special clinics.

Through the Criminal Records Program, this project addresses the need for legal services to over 5,000 men and women each year in the Chicagoland area who are seeking to remove employment barriers imposed by their criminal records. Their needs are addressed through mechanisms such as expungement and sealing, pardons, health care waivers and certificates.
