The Project

Valeria represented indigent immigrants in East Tennessee and served unaccompanied children through the Equal Justice Works-jAC program. Valeria is the only pro bono attorney who can represent children in immigration court in East Tennessee — an area encompassing 32 counties and over 13,000 sq. miles.

Immigrants in East Tennessee are in a difficult predicament. They are scheduled to immigration court in Memphis, which is 6-8 hours away for East Tennesseans. There is only one other immigration non-profit in the area, but it does not have attorneys and cannot represent people in court. Valeria is the only pro bono attorney who can represent children in immigration court in East Tennessee — an area encompassing 32 counties and over 13,000 sq. miles.
