Introducing Equal Justice Works’ 40×40 Alumni Changemakers

Justice moves forward because people move it forward. 

For 40 years, Equal Justice Works has helped put justice in motion by investing in leaders who expand access to justice and strengthen communities across the country. 

Over 2,700 Alumni have launched their careers through Fellowships, with 85% of Alumni remaining in public interest law throughout their careers. Fellows have become lifelong advocates in our Alumni base, fortifying organizations, shaping policy, empowering communities, and building a more just legal system for everyone. 

As part of our 40th anniversary, we are recognizing 40 outstanding Equal Justice Works Alumni whose careers demonstrate meaningful impact in their communities, organizations, and fields. 

Who should apply or be nominated?

We are seeking Equal Justice Works Alumni who have demonstrated significant professional impact since completing their Fellowship. 

You can apply yourself or nominate a peer whose work demonstrates:   

• Community or Sector Impact: Work that contributes to strengthening communities, institutions, or fields of practice.   
• Leadership: A track record of leading initiatives, organizations, teams, or ideas that create positive change.    
• Commitment to Service: Careers that demonstrate dedication to serving communities and the public interest. 

We recognize that impactful careers take many forms. While strong candidates often demonstrate several of these qualities, we encourage Alumni to apply or be nominated even if they do not meet every criterion.

Honorees will receive public recognition, special profile features, and media and promotional support, along with additional benefits to be announced.
