
Michael Futrell
Chief of Staff
Michael Futrell is the Chief of Staff at Equal Justice Works. Michael was most recently the Senior Advisor to the CEO of Millennium Enterprise Corporation and Chief of Staff to the Lt. Governor of Virginia.
Before these roles, Michael was elected in 2014 to the Virginia House of Delegates, becoming first African American to represent Stafford County. During his time in the Virginia House, Delegate Futrell had several bills he introduced and co-sponsored signed into law in areas including the state infrastructure fund, education, veterans’ issues, criminal justice reform, and health care.
Michael has a B.A. degree in education from Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky, where he was captain of the men’s basketball team. He later returned in 2017 to deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary doctorate from the college. Michael and his wife Bernadine are the proud parents of two children and are the Young Adult Pastors at Harvest Life Church in Virginia.
A former college basketball player, coach, and teacher, Michael brings his passion for developing and guiding teams to reach their fullest potential.
