Become a Host Organization
The Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Veterans Legal Corps (VLC) brings together 24 Fellows and more than 230 law students to provide legal services to low-income and homeless veterans and their families.
VLC Fellows serve a one-year term and law students serve for a period of eight to ten weeks, focusing on:
Equal Justice Works will provide an annual living allowance toward a Fellow’s annual salary, as well as a robust training curriculum and technical assistance for Fellows, host supervisors, and law students throughout the course of the year. Fellows are entitled to a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,095 upon successful completion of 1,700 hours. Law students are entitled to a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of a $1,230 stipend upon successful completion of 300 hours of service.
Legal services organizations in the United States and its territories that have a history of delivering relevant services to veterans and their families are welcome to apply. Organizations must provide legal supervision, a work space, materials needed to work, and funding for fringe benefits, including health insurance, FICA, Worker’s Compensation (if applicable), and any other benefits available to full-time staff members. Selected organizations are required to match the living allowance in full.
VLC is an AmeriCorps National program funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Applications for this program are no longer being accepted. You can find a list of organizations currently hosting VLC Fellows and law students below.
