Equal Justice Works Appoints D.C. Circuit Judge Cornelia T. L. Pillard to its Board of Directors

Equal Justice Works, the nation’s largest facilitator of opportunities in public interest law, today announced that Judge Cornelia T. L. Pillard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has been named to the organization’s board of directors.

Since 2013, Judge Pillard has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Before her nomination to the bench, she was a tenured professor at Georgetown University Law Center and was also the faculty co-director of the Georgetown Law Center Supreme Court Institute, a program that helps attorneys prepare for arguments before the Supreme Court.

Judge Pillard has held a number of public sector positions in the legal community. She served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice and as the Assistant to the Solicitor General. Additionally, Judge Pillard worked as the Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. She began her career as a law clerk to Judge Louis H. Pollak.

Judge Pillard earned her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Yale College and her law degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she served as an editor on the Harvard Law Review.
